no, I didn't hear that rumour. I don't even know if they even have a continuation of GSD..I know there's a movie coming soon, could that be the continuation? I don't know if that romour is true or not, I don't know what Fukuda and Morosawa have planned for the movie or what they plan to do with AthrunxCagalli. Even though both AthrunxCagalli were "jerks" to each other, they both forgave each other for what the other has done. Athrun understood why Cagalli did what she did and Cagalli knew why Athrun did what he did. Athrun even understood why Cagalli had temporarily taken off her ring too: he knew that their love cannot be what it was before, until everything returns to normal again. In ep 45, he sees that Cagalli had taken off her ring and wanted to talk to her, but he decided to wait. Kira and Lacus asked if he was okay with this, and he said that it was. He said something like "It's okay..for now anyways...I was being impatient before...So there's no need to rush. We have the same dream." He's willing to wait for the day in which he and Cagalli can be together again.

Even though some people say that they're "broken up" and Athrun left Cagalli for Meyrin (perish the thought! *shudders*), it's not true. Their relationship is on "hiatus", they're both waiting for the day until they can be together.

In the ending of special edition #4, Athrun is seen wearing an ORB uniform when he accompanies Kira to the PLANTS

I think this means that Athrun's chosen to remain in ORB with Cagalli, while Kira will be on PLANTS with Lacus. In the end, AthrunxCagalli are still kinda together, but are temporarily separated due to the events of the war. Only the upcoming movie can explain the future of AthrunxCagalli (and I hope it's a good happy ending ^^)

Also, apparently in the special editions, they didn't make AthrunxCagalli's relationship as "distant" as it was in the TV series. So if you want to watch the rest of the series, I'd suggest watching the SEs. I haven't seen all of the SEs, but according to the reviews I've read, it's better than the TV series.

I hope this somewhat answers your question (unless it's already been answered)

You could also ask boredandsleepy about this too, this person has renewed my hope for AthrunxCagalli so many times ^^ This person also has good info as well =D

Athrun, Cagalli, Kira and Lacus are the main characters in the series, and they all deserve a happy ending; KiraxLacus should be together and AthrunxCagalli should be together; they've all been through so much together and as friends. And besides, the loving relationship between AthrunxCagalli add a very important point to the whole GS/GSD story: it shows that coodinators and naturals live together peacefully. They can form strong bonds and even love each other.

Me either...I know Morosawa has some role in the GS/GSD series, but I don't know what..but the way you mentioned how she said that AthrunxCagalli's real love begins after GSD gives me a little more hope for a happy ending between AthrunxCagalli But, I guess we'll have to wait for the movie to come out, and find out if AthrunxCagalli get a happy ending

mine too! I respect AthrunxCagalli a lot, they're the perfect couple in GS/GSD; they're the only couple that actually show feelings for each other. Fukuda will definitely lose lots of money and fans, maybe even respect from everyone..that's the same reason why I watched GS/GSD too! If he closes their relationship, watch his ratings go down..I think that's everyone's reason maybe others have different reasons, but it's probably the same

I really hope he doesn't go back to ZAFT. It doesn't make sense with all that has happened in Destiny. I mean, Athrun said that he was willing to wait for Cagalli and Cagalli never gave him back the ring (even though she did take it off but for good reason though) and she didn't "hand" Athrun to Meyrin either; she couldn't go with them, no matter how much she wanted to go and Athrun understood that too. They even hugged in the Final Plus before the Archangel left. That all has to mean something afterall. But I'm pretty sure that there's a happy ending for AthrunxCagalli. There's lots of prrof to prove it and there's no way Fukuda and the producers are willing to let their ratings drop and lose money

but then again...I found out about it on Wikipedia..which is according to most people (and my professors) is not very credible. I just finished my second year of university, and of all the times I've had to write research papers, I've never been allowed to use Wikipedia as one of my resources. Plus, this info shown on there about the movie is subject to change and edits as time goes on and as the movie is near completion. So I think, it's safe to assume that the current info is just an assumption...? I really don't know It really doesn't make sense though..I'll probably keep monitoring that page until more info is added..or maybe find more info on this movie through hard core research

But all we can really do is hope that our requests get through to Fukuda and everyone else who's part of the production of the series. We can only hope AthrunxCagalli are together in the end =D
